Tunisia Discovery

Day1: Tunis Airport – Sidi Bou Said – Tunis (80 km)

  Upon arrival to the airport, you`ll be met by your guide. Drive to the village of Sidi Bou Said, a lovely blue and white village perched on the cliffs. Follow the cobblestone streets winding upwards with small shops selling antiques, Tunisian handicrafts and silver. Catch glimpses of the emerald sea with the mountain and the southern beaches of Tunis. Time for a local speciality, green tea with mint at the famous ‘Cafe Des Nattes’. Continue to Gammarth (Tunis north). Check in at hotel El Mouradi Gammarth 5*, or similar.

Day2: Tunis- Carthage (UNESCO) – Bardo museum-Medina (UNESCO)- Port El Kantaoui (185 km)   Breakfast, departure to Carthage – declared a national monument, the ancient city of Carthage and nearby Salambo, abound in vestiges of the Punic and Roman empires with baths, dwellings, temples, shrines and the fabulous naval port of the Carthaginians. See the Antonin Thermal Baths one of the largest built under the Roman Empire with the ‘cool room’ an amazing 47 metres long and 15 metres high, the Roman theatre which is still used today for the summer festival of Carthage. And, admire the stunning panoramic view from hill of Byrsa overlooking the ancient site. Continue to Bardo museum – this museum was originally a Palace, built in the 13th century and restored over the years. It’s now displays some of the finest Roman mosaics and other priceless treasures from various areas throughout Tunisia. This superb example of Arab-Moslem architecture and decor features vaulted ceilings, galleries and cupolas. The last part of our tour will take us to the heart of Tunis and the old Medina. Our guide will escort you through the narrow alleys which wind their way through the heart of this cultural haven. You will see the great Mosque Zaytouna located in the centre of the old Medina, door-to-door shops selling all types of local curiosities, and many stunning houses of character which are now used as exclusive gift shops, art galleries and fine traditional restaurants. Day3: Port El Kantaoui – Kairouan (UNESCO) – Tozeur (336 km)

  After breakfast, departure to Kairouan the Holy City. Here, more than fifty mosques are clustered within the old Medina, however the ninth century Great Mosque is the most impressive. You will have time to visit the rest of the holy city, including the Berber Mausoleum, and time for shopping in the Old Medina. Continue to Tozeur via Gafsa. Tozeur is an oasis and a city in south west Tunisia. With hundreds of thousands of palm trees. Check in at hotel El Mouradi Toz optional, payable locally *, or similar.

Day4: Tozeur – Chebika – Tamerza – Ong Jemel – Tozeur (200 km) Free day in Tozeur or possibility to do the following excursions by Jeep 4×4: Morning excursion: Drive by Jeep 4×4 for and adventure tour to visit the mountain oasis of Chebika, Tamerza. Chebika has two villages, the old and the new. The old village was destroyed by storms, however some of the dwellings and buildings still remain intact. It was built on a steep gorge and provides amazing panoramic- scenery. You will have the opportunity to explore this beautiful location where you will see natural springs and a palm oasis. You can also walk through the gorge, a wonderful experience, as you cross the small streams and pass small waterfalls. We continue with our 4×4 adventure passing the isolated mountain village of Tamerza en route. Afternoon excursion: Drive by Jeep 4×4 to visit Ong Jemel-it’s a desert near the Algerian border where three famous films: Star Wars, the English patient and the Black Gold has been made. Overnight at the hotel of stay.

Day5: Tozeur – Chott El Jerid – Douz (180 km)

  After breakfast, visit of Tozeur old town, where you can see the typical architecture of this town. Cross the salt lake Chott El Jerid with short stop to take photos. Arrival to Douz, called also the Gateway of the desert. Check in at hotel Sahara Douz 4*, or similar. On the afternoon possibility to do a camel ride (Optional) or other sports activities (Optional) like quad bike, U. L. M plane, Kart cross’etc. Overnight at the hotel of stay.

Day6: Douz – Matmata – Gabes- El Jem (UNESCO) – Monastir (350 km) After breakfast, drive to Matmata. Visit of the Troglodyte dwelling similar to the dwellings featured in the hit movie Star Wars I, then drive to Gabes visit of the spices Market. Continue to El Jem via the town of Mahres. El Jem is particularly famous for its Roman Coliseum which could accommodate over thirty thousand spectators in its heyday. This magnificent Roman Amphitheatre is very well preserved, possibly better than the Coliseum in Rome. Continue to Monastir. Check in at hotel Amir Palace 5*, or similar.

Day7: Monastir – Sousse (UNESCO)– Port EL Kantaoui – Hammamet (118 km)   After breakfast, Visit the town of Monastir and Bouguiba mausoleum (Bourguiba is the first president of Tunisia and the father of Tunisia, liberator of women and builder of modern Tunisia). Continue to Sousse, visit its Medina (the old town). Drive to Port El Kantaoui to explore the marina, shops, bars, and restaurants. Possibility to do a cruise tour with the Pirate Boat (optional excursion: include animation, soft drinks and BBQ lunch). Drive to Hammamet. Check in at hotel. Afternoon free to relax. Overnight at the hotel.

Day8: Hammamet – Tunis Airport (65 km) After breakfast, Transfer departure to Tunis airport. **End of our services**
