Suggested itinerary
Day 1: Hammamet - Kairouan - Tozeur
Departure to Kairouan, the fourth holy city of Islam and a traditional centre for carpets and kilims. Visit the Great Mosque, Sidi Saheb Mosque, the Aghlabid Basins and the souks. Continue to Tozeur through Gafsa. Arrival, accommodation in a guesthouse or hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Tozeur - Chebika - Tamerza - Mides - Douz - Sabria
After breakfast, depart by 4×4 to the mountain oases of Chebika, Tamerza and Mides, with canyon landscapes, waterfalls and traditional villages. Cross Chott el Jerid towards Douz. Visit the historic centre and learn about the daily life of the Mrazig tribes. Optional camel ride available. Continue to Sabria for dinner with show and tent overnight.
Day 3: Douz - Ksar Hallouf - Guermessa - Ksar Hadada - Tataouine
Departure to Berber villages and ksour, ancient collective granaries built to protect reserves. Visit Guermessa and continue to Ksar Hadada, an iconic place for Star Wars fans. Accommodation in the Tataouine area, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Matmata - El Jem - Hammamet
Drive to Matmata to visit the Berber village, a troglodyte house and the lunar landscape linked to Star Wars. Continue to El Jem to visit the Roman amphitheatre, one of the best-preserved Roman ruins in the world. Return to Hammamet.
